MLP delegates vote for early election

Even though the majority of the MLP Delegates voted for an election the PM does not inted to resign imediatly.

 

Dr. George Abela - 15 th July 1998

He is the deputy leader of the Malta Labour Party. He voted against an election and is therefor on the black list if Alfred Sant, the MLP leader. Usually who goes against Sant's desire is left out of participating in the party's affairs.

Many people are getting ready to take his place. People mentioned are : Dr. Paul Lia, Leo Brincat the minister of Finance, Education minister Varist Bartolo, Ex. Party Secretary Maria-Louise Coleiro, Ex. Justice minister Charles Mangion and Tourism minister Karmenu Vella.

 

2nd Day - Last day - 10/07/1998

This was the last day of the MLP conference. This was the final decision which was taken at a majority by only 46 delegates voting against.

Theoretically, there should have been 890 MLP delegates - only 715 voted.

 

1st Day - "Ir-reb[a tag[na ter;a tkun" - 09/07/1998

Dr. Alfred Sant wants an election to be held as soon as it is politically and materially possible. On Thursday 9th July the Parties highest body met to discuss Dr. Sants proposal.

2 spokesmen spoke out against Dr. Sant the Prim Minister, and these people were also applauded by some of the public. Gorg Abela was one of the 2. He is deputy leader and one of the 3 heads of the MLP.

The conference will meet tomorrow to carry on the discusion.
